Each carefully crafted chair is individual, as the tree from which it was made is individual, the light and dark, the perfections and imperfections of the wood are allowed to dictate the way in which it is worked.
Not until I have chosen the piece of Elm from which I will create the seat, the very heart of the chair, and taken the first steps towards shaping it, does the vision of how the chair will develop start to grow.
After this the angles and position of the legs are marked out and it is these angles and placements that give the chair its character.
The finishing touches of the style of arms or crest is a matter of the inspiration of the moment, thus each chair is unique and individual.
Attention to detail ensures a surprisingly comfortable, handcrafted, hand-finished chair.
My interest in early Celtic country chairs developed over the years during my time spent living and working in Ireland, England and Wales; I have now settled back in England to continue my craft from my workshop in Shropshire. My hope is that my handcrafted chairs will bring as much pleasure to you, the new owner, as I had in the making of them.
